Through July 31, any active, benefits-eligible employee can apply to become a Champion for their department, unit or area. Those working onsite, remote or hybrid are encouraged to join.

“Having a Champion in your area is one of the most effective ways to foster a culture that supports employee health and well-being,” said Karen Schmidt, MHealthy’s senior director. “If you are interested in well-being and like to support others, we encourage you to apply.”

Champions serve a two-year term and commit to approximately two hours per month toward their duties.

With MHealthy’s support and guidance, Champions will:

  • Work with an MHealthy Wellness Coordinator to tailor activities for their area.
  • Help their area achieve its health and well-being goals.
  • Communicate MHealthy programs and resources to co-workers.
  • Encourage participation in well-being activities.
  • Apply for wellness grants to support their area’s well-being needs.
  • Foster connection in today’s work environment.

Fatmeh Nahle said she loves bringing a smile to a person’s day and, as an MHealthy Champion has been able to do that.

“I signed up to be a Champion five years ago and have not regretted one day of it,” said Nahle, a senior surgical technologist in East Ann Arbor’s Surgical Center.

“I have learned and passed on so much from MHealthy. I started a monthly healthy snack day and created an MHealthy board where we highlight monthly happenings and recipes to try out.

“We’ve also held friendly team-building competitions similar to ‘Family Feud’ and ‘The Weakest Link,’ offered self-defense and back exercise classes, and held healthy cooking demonstrations.”

Employees interested in becoming Champions should apply by July 31. Before accepting the application, MHealthy will contact the candidate’s supervisor for approval.
