Two patients report assaults by staff

In separate incidents, two University Hospital patients reported they had been assaulted by staff during recent hospital visits. One patient reported that she was inappropriately touched and exposed by a staff person Dec. 13. The other patient reported that twice he had been assaulted by staff between Nov. 24 and Dec. 2. Both incidents are under investigation by university police.

Student papers burned outside South Quad

A pile of papers from class projects and lectures was found smoldering Dec. 13 outside of South Quadrangle Residence Hall. The unattended fire was extinguished before it spread to the building or nearby shrubs. That night, the owner of the papers was located, interviewed and released. The investigation has been submitted to the county prosecutor’s office for review of possible arson charges.

Moped stolen from near Diag, recovered off-campus

A 2014 moped reportedly was stolen from a bicycle rack between Tisch Hall and the U-M Museum of Art between noon Dec. 5 and 6:30 p.m. December 6. The moped had not been secured to a parking hoop. A week later, the owner recovered her moped after a friend spotted it parked a few blocks off campus. There are no suspects in the theft.
