Mitchell Fields reopening

President Mark Schlissel (center) joined students, Recreational Sports staff and other university officials Monday to celebrate the reopening of Mitchell Fields, south of Fuller Road just east of the Huron River, after the intramural and club sports facility underwent months of improvements. The work included four artificial-turf soccer and multi-purpose intramural fields, energy-efficient lighting, drainage improvements and a new 3,200-square-foot building with bathroom facilities, storage and maintenance spaces. Joining Schissel to cut the ceremonial ribbon were, from left, E. Royster Harper, vice president for student life; Nicole Green-Valentine, assistant director of recreational sports; Loren Rullman, associate vice president for student life; Rebecca Sigourney, co-chair of Building A Better Michigan; Schissel; club sports athletes Sarah Ventimiglia, Jared Bosma, Thomas Zaikos; and Michael Widen, director of recreational sports.
