Advisory committee named for next School for Environment and Sustainability dean

The search process has started for the next dean of the School for Environment and Sustainability.

Jonathan Overpeck will conclude his second five-year term as dean June 30, 2027.  

Provost Laurie McCauley has announced the appointment of the U-M advisory committee that will assist in the search. The committee met May 14 to receive its official charge. Assisting the committee is executive search firm Spencer Stuart, represented by consultants Mary Gorman and Michael Steck.

The search advisory committee includes representatives from faculty, staff and students of the school and other members of the university community:

  • Shelie Miller (chair), Jonathan W. Bulkley Collegiate Professor of Sustainable Systems, professor of environment and sustainability, SEAS; professor of environment, Program in the Environment, SEAS and LSA; co-director, Center for Sustainable Systems; and professor of civil and environmental engineering, College of Engineering
  • Bilal Butt, professor of environment and sustainability, SEAS; and senior adviser, Center for Global Health Equity
  • Spencer Checkoway, Ph.D. candidate, sustainable systems and civil engineering
  • Kim Diver, lecturer III in Program in the Environment, SEAS and LSA
