Active U brings movement, team support and T-shirts

Topics:

Active U has offered the U-M community team support, friendly competition and motivation to get moving during colder months since 2005.

The 12-week physical activity challenge is back this winter, encouraging all at the university to join in.

Registration is open on the MHealthy Portal. Participants can sign up as an individual or join a team with co-workers, U-M friends and spouses/other qualified adults. Tracking physical activity minutes starts Jan. 22.

In Active U, all movement counts — walk, roll, shovel snow, stretch, lift weights or play with the kids or pets. It’s up to participants how they meet their physical-activity-minutes goal. Last year, more than 6,000 participants logged more than 14 million activity minutes during the challenge.

This year’s program highlights include:

  • Active U T-shirts: One of the program’s most popular perks returns. Qualify for a T-shirt by meeting the program’s completion requirements. Upgrading to other Active U items will also be an option.
  • Easy logging: Manually log minutes on the portal or sync to an activity tracking device.
  • Active U Slack channel: Connect with other participants, share photos, find encouragement and stay motivated.
  • Swag Squad: Enter to win $25 gift cards by sharing photos and posting to Active U’s Slack Channel.
  • Physical Activity Library on MiVideo: Access more than 100 videos in categories such as strength training, cardio, yoga and more.
  • Charity of choice: During Active U, participants have the option to donate to Project Healthy Schools. The program enables middle school students to increase physical activity, eat healthier and understand how nutrition and activity influence their lifelong health.

Active U is open to all faculty, staff, students, retirees and employee spouses/OQAs of all fitness levels and abilities. The deadline to register is Feb. 5.
