Student slapped at football game
A student told police Oct. 9 that she had been slapped twice on the buttocks by an unknown male while attending a football game. A 19-year-old student was identified as the suspect. The investigation has been submitted to the county prosecutor’s office for review.
Patient reported assault
A patient at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital told her mother Oct. 19 that she had been sexually assaulted by a U-M Health System staff person two weeks earlier. Department of Public Safety detectives continue to investigate the incident.
No charges authorized in access dispute
A security guard assigned to monitor access to the lower level of East Hall on Oct. 12 due to flooding issues told police his phone had been taken by a custodian after the guard took a picture of the custodian. The guard reported he had taken the picture in an effort to identify the custodian after the man refused to sign an access log. After a physical altercation, the guard recovered his phone and reported the incident to the police. The prosecutor’s office did not authorize attempted robbery charges.
Two unattended residence hall rooms burglarized
Residents of rooms in Markley Hall and North Quad reported to police that personal property had been removed from their rooms while they left them unattended.
The Markley residents told police Oct. 16 that a window fan had been moved away from the first floor window while they were away from their room. When they returned, they noticed a laptop computer and other electronics were missing. The residents couldn’t remember if they had left the window open when they left in the morning.
A North Quad resident told police Oct. 20 that a camera, watch and money had been removed from their room, while roommates occupied another area of the suite between 7-10 p.m.
Both investigations have been closed due to lack of leads.
Two students found at construction site
Two students may be facing burglary charges after they were found by university police in the Law School addition construction site Oct. 23. Police officers patrolling in the area located one student crouching on the outside of the construction fence in possession of a sledge hammer and towing chain. While searching inside the construction area, a second student was located. The two students were processed and released that night pending warrant authorization by the county prosecutor’s office.
Concessions taken from Athletics trailer
Athletics staff reported to police Oct. 27 that a trailer near the field hockey field was broken into and about $100 in concessions were missing. The trailer door showed evidence of forced entry.
Two cars stolen from campus lots
A 2000 Honda Civic and a 1997 Toyota Camry were reported stolen from campus parking lots in October. Two others had been stolen in September. In the more recent incidents, one car later was recovered and the other remains missing as of this publication date.
On Oct. 11 a staff person told university police that her 2000 Honda Civic had been stolen from the Wolverine Tower parking lot while she was working. There were no signs of broken glass or metal in the parking lot near her parking spot.
On Oct. 3 a student told police that his Toyota had been taken from Lot SC-20 near Schembechler Hall sometime the previous two days. When he returned to the lot and told police his car was missing, he was informed that it had been towed from a private lot on Washtenaw Avenue. Upon retrieving the vehicle from the towing company, the student discovered that his backpack and GPS device were missing.
Ann Arbor Police offer reward for assault information
The Ann Arbor Police Department is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects in connection with two separate assaults in October.
Around 10 p.m. Oct. 9, an Eastern Michigan University (EMU) student reportedly was walking along Granger Avenue toward Packard Street after the U-M vs. Michigan State University football game. He engaged in a brief verbal exchange with another pedestrian before the second man struck the EMU student in the face. The attacker punched and kicked the student several times, resulting in significant injuries to his head and teeth.
The suspect is described as either a dark-skinned white man or a light-skinned black man, between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall and about 180 pounds. He was bald or had short hair.
In the second assault, which reportedly occurred Oct. 15 at The Fifth Quarter on South Fifth Avenue, a U-M student was struck in the face with a beer bottle by an unknown man. The student suffered significant injuries to his eye and mouth. The suspect is described as a college-aged white man with light brown hair that’s possibly curly in the back.
