Bo in bronze

This larger-than-life-size statue depicts legendary U-M football coach Bo Schembechler in an iconic sideline stance. A gift from alumnus Robert W. Browne, the bronze sculpture by J. Brett Gill was commissioned as part of the renovation of Schembechler Hall and the Towsley Museum, at the entrance to which the statue stands. Advancing energy efficiency

Earlier this year, two U-M buildings — School of Public Health II and the Angell Complex — were recognized in the Michigan Battle of the Buildings as leaders in reduced energy consumption for 2017. In this video, Provost Martin Philbert and others discuss energy conservation efforts on campus.

UMAPS welcomes new cohort

These scholars are among the 14 early-career African faculty members from a variety of fields that comprise the 11th cohort of the U-M African Presidential Scholars program at the African Studies Center. Representing universities in Ghana, South Africa, Ethiopia, Uganda, Liberia, Nigeria, Gabon and Tanzania, the scholars are paired with U-M faculty members for mentorship and collaboration on projects that will help advance their careers. Taubman College welcome

A new home for museum specimens

Movers have finished hauling more than 20 million museum specimens from U-M’s zoology, paleontology and anthropology collections to a state-of-the-art collections and research facility. The specimens were moved to the university’s research museums complex on Varsity Drive, about five miles south of Central Campus. In this video, museum officials highlight some of the many specimens in museum collections.

URC economic impact

Michigan’s University Research Corridor, which includes U-M, contributed $18.7 billion to the state economy in 2017, an increase from $16.5 billion in 2015, according to a report released Wednesday. This video explores the impact of the URC, which also includes Michigan State and Wayne State universities and is one of the nation’s top research clusters.

Listening to Puerto Rico

While their football rivalry will come to a head this weekend, U-M and Notre Dame are also working together on “Listening to Puerto Rico,” a free, online global learning teach-out designed to remind the world of those who battle daily to overcome the devastation wrought one year ago by Hurricane Maria. In this video, U-M President Mark Schlissel and Notre Dame President John Jenkins explain how the two universities are collaborating.
