Writers, designers win CASE awards

Several U-M units have received publications awards in competition sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

“Portraits from the Promised Land: The Grapes of Wrath Revisited,” written by freelancer Suzanne Burr and published in the Michigan Alumnus, won a gold medal in the Best Articles of the Year category. Former Alumnus associate editor Stephen Rossoff’s profile of twin brother photographers David and Peter Turnley, “Humanists with a Lens,” won a silver medal in the same category.

The Office of Marketing Communications also won two awards. A gold medal went to the CASE I Newsletter, designed by Kathy Horn. She also designed the silver medal-winning Columbus Map Portfolio that accompanied an exhibition at the Clements Library.

Other awards garnered by Marketing Communications include:

—The Potlatch Award for excellence was presented to the Michigan Spirit booklet, conceived by Judy Malcolm and Jane Myers of Development Donor Relations and Liene Karels of Marketing Communications. The booklet was the centerpiece of the printed materials used at the kickoff of The Campaign for Michigan.

—The Detroit Club of Printing House Craftsmen recognized U-M-Dearborn’s Henry Ford Estate Landmark book with its Award of Excellence. It was designed by Kathy Krick of Marketing Communications for Marcy Jefferson at Dearborn.
