University Record unveils new look in print and online

Welcome to the new-and-improved University Record.

Today the publication that has served the University of Michigan community since 1891 has a new look in print and online.

Like the refreshed Block M logo that was unveiled in May, the University Record also has been refreshed with a Web-first publishing approach, new typography in print, a new Web address and more consistent branding.

Even with these changes, the University Record will retain its most popular features including the Faculty/Staff Spotlight, the Old School history items and the events calendar. The daily email will continue. Our new format will allow us to better highlight upcoming events in print and on the Web.

Many of you helped to shape these changes over the past 18 months by participating in an online readership survey or providing valuable feedback during focus groups. Among the other changes are these:

• A more up-to-date design in print with one headline style and a more readable body type.

• One University Record website at this address: record.umich.edu. We have combined the separate websites for the Record Update and the University Record Online.

• A responsive website that automatically recalibrates to whatever mobile device you are using.

• A redesigned daily University Record email with links to the day’s top stories and videos.

• One University Record Facebook page and one Twitter account.

On behalf of Jillian Bogater, editor of the print edition, and Jamie Iseler, website and email editor, I thank you for reading the University Record. Please let us know what you think.
