“Craig has done a remarkable job since coming to University of Michigan pursuing initiatives that simplify complex processes,” said Daryl Weinert, associate vice president for research — sponsored projects.

“Craig’s leadership will help ORSP fulfill its vision of seamless support to the university community making U-M the preferred partner for world-changing research.”

Since February 2013, Reynolds has been associate director of research and sponsored projects. Prior to that he was chief administrator of the Department of Biological Chemistry within the Medical School.

Reynolds also has played an active role in the National Council of University Research Administrators since 1997, and currently serves on NCURA’s Board of Directors.

Projects that Reynolds has helped to implement since his arrival at ORSP include:

• A simplified and systematic post-award change process.

• A new procedure delegating the approval of indirect cost waivers to the project’s administrative home rather than ORSP.

• A new policy to reduce administrative barriers surrounding hardship requests.

• Streamlined certification requirements for the Program for Education and Evaluation in Responsible Research and Scholarship.

Reynolds’ appointment is effective July 1.
