U will return to traditional spring commencement

The University is returning to a traditional spring commencement for all undergraduates. The program will be held at 10 a.m. April 29 in Michigan Stadium, and will be open to graduates of all schools and colleges and their families and guests. Honorary degrees will be conferred at this event.

Returning to the traditional format “gives the University’s graduates an opportunity to celebrate their graduation as a community,” says Walter Harrison, vice president for university relations. “We feel that the addition of a central ceremony will further enhance the commencement experience of our spring graduates and their families.”

All undergraduate degrees will be conferred at the Stadium exercises.

Rackham degrees will be conferred at University Graduate Exercises at 3 p.m. April 28 in Hill Auditorium.

Non-Rackham master’s degrees will continue to be conferred at unit exercises.

Professional schools—Dentistry, Law, Medicine and Pharmacy—will continue to hold separate ceremonies.

Harrison notes that University units are being encouraged to continue to hold their own recognition ceremonies and exercises, “which reflect the unique character of each school and college.”

Detailed information about spring commencement, such as eligibility to participate, number of tickets available and special arrangements for people with disabilities, will be available in February.
