The University of Michigan community has again demonstrated its commitment to supporting local and regional needs by surpassing the 2024 United Way employee-giving campaign’s $1 million goal, raising $1,123,226 as of Dec. 31, 2024.

“This achievement reflects the extraordinary generosity and community spirit that define our university,” President Santa J. Ono said. “Together, we are making a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals and families in our region. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished through our continued partnership with the United Way.”

Chris Kolb, vice president for government relations and co-chair of the campaign, highlighted the strategic efforts that led to this success.

“Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors, we have not only met but exceeded our goal,” he said. “Every donation, large or small, contributes to a greater cause that benefits all through the invaluable services provided by the United Way and its partners.”

Charlie Reuland, chief operations integration officer at Michigan Medicine and campaign co-chair, added that reaching the campaign goal is a testament to the strength of the U-M community.

“It’s inspiring to see how the collective action of our faculty, staff and retirees can effect such profound change. We are grateful to everyone who contributed and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting our community’s well-being,” Reuland said.

The funds raised through the 2024 campaign will support a wide range of programs and services facilitated by the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, focusing on crucial areas such as health, education and financial stability. These contributions will ensure ongoing support for the most vulnerable populations in Washtenaw County and beyond, enhancing the quality of life across the community.

As U-M looks forward to the 2025 campaign next fall, the continued partnership with the United Way for Southeastern Michigan promises further opportunities to foster positive change and strengthen community ties.
