U-M requiring password reset for UMICH (Level-1) accounts

Topics:

The University of Michigan has mandated that passwords for all UMICH (Level-1) accounts be reset by the end of Sept. 12.

An email informing faculty, staff and students across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses, as well as Michigan Medicine, was sent from Ravi Pendse, vice president for information technology, and Sol Bermann, chief information security officer. The message included instructions for accessing the self-service password change page.

If the Sept. 12 deadline is missed, a more intricate account-recovery process will be necessary to regain access. Assistance for this process is provided on the Information and Technology Services website.

When updating, university community members must not reuse prior passwords.

Those facing difficulties with the password tool can find additional resources on the ITS Change Your UMICH Password webpage, or by contacting the ITS Service Center for further support.

Your article says that an email was sent to faculty, staff and students about changing your password. Why did you not send the same email to all of us alumni who still have umich.edu email addresses?

Hello – An announcement about the password change timeline for alumni will be coming at a future date.

Will retirees also be required to change passwords? I didn’t get an email.

Likewise, as a retiree, will we be required to change our Password? Is our retiree umich.edu acct. considered Level 1?

    Thank you.

I believe a level 1 account means you have 2 factor security. It would be helpful to state what level 1 account means. It is not easy info to find on the umich site.

Please do let retirees who have 2-factor security know if we are among those who should change their passwords. Thanks!

I’m an alum and have not been able to send emails since Thursday and have not been able to receive emails since Friday. I reset my password today and am still having the same problem. Who should I be in contact with to resolve, as I’m assuming it is related to the issues mentioned here?
