Schultz and Wright to lead faculty governance in 2016-17

The Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs has elected William Schultz, a professor in the College of Engineering, to chair U-M’s central faculty governance system for the coming year.

Schultz, professor of mechanical engineering and applied mechanics, and naval architecture and marine engineering, was elected at Monday’s SACUA meeting with members casting paper ballots.

David Wright, associate professor of accounting at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, was elected vice chair by acclamation.

Both positions are for one-year terms that begin May 1.

John Lehman, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, also ran for chair. Wright was unopposed for vice chair.

Schultz and Wright also will serve as chair and vice chair, respectively, of the 74-member Senate Assembly. SACUA is the nine-member executive arm of the Senate Assembly and the Faculty Senate.

Schultz will succeed current SACUA Chair Silke-Maria Weineck, professor of Germanic languages and literatures, and comparative literature, and Wright will succeed Schultz. Weineck’s term on SACUA expires April 30, 2017.
