Regents’ Roundup

Editor’s Note: The following actions were taken by the Regents at their September meeting.

Gifts

The Regents accepted $30,900,398 in gifts received in June-August. The total included $13,831,020 from inidivduals, $6,911,197 from corporations, $6,566,212 from foundations and $3,591,969 from associations and others.

Renovation projects

Two renovation projects–one for the Perry Building and the other for Mason Hall and Haven Hall–were approved.

Act 480 of the Public Acts of 1996 includes a Central Campus Renovation Phase II Project, valued at $79 million, for the Ann Arbor campus. The Phase II Project focuses on improvements to infrastructure and has five components: Perry Building, LS&A Building, Frieze Building, Mason Hall and Haven Hall and West Hall.

Programming and design for Mason and Haven Halls, which provide classrooms and office space for various LS&A departments, will be initiated. The state will fund $12 million (75 percent of the authorized $16 million) and the University will fund $4 million (25 percent).

Programming and design also will begin for the Perry Building, which will renovate the building’s approximately 59,000 gross square feet. All of the net area will be assigned to three departments: sociology and American culture and the Center for Research on Social Organization.
