REGENTS’ ROUNDUP

Editor’s Note: The following actions were taken by the Regents at their November meeting.

Nearly $11 million in gifts accepted
The Regents formally accepted $10,952,834 in gifts received during October. The total included $7,554,684 from individuals, $1,651,491 from corporations, $1,337,889 from foundations, and $408,770 from associations and others.

Guck to join School of Music
Marion A. Guck, a faculty member at Washington University, will become professor of music (music theory), with tenure, effective Sept. 1, 1996.

5 appointed to administrative posts
Administrative appointments approved by the Regents included:

William E. Kotowicz, professor of dentistry, will extend his appointment as acting dean of the School of Dentistry through Aug. 31, 1997.

James C. Snyder, professor of architecture and urban planning, will serve as associate dean for administration of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning for a five-year term beginning Jan. 1, 1996.

Karen K. Wixson, professor of education, will serve as associate dean of the School of Education, effective Jan. 1, 1996-June 30, 1999.

Giles G. Bole, professor of internal medicine, will extend his appointment as dean of the Medical School through June 30, 1997.

Donald E. Riggs, professor of information and library studies, will extend his appointment as dean of the University Library through Dec. 31, 1996.

Capital outlay request OK’d
The Regents approved a number of renovation and construction projects to be included in the University’s 1997-98 capital outlay request to the state.

The request for projects on the Ann Arbor main campus totals $81 million. Of the total, $48 million is for new projects and $33 million is for continuing projects, or those that have been recognized by the state Legislature on a continuing basis but which may or may not have received recent appropriations.

Projects for the Medical Campus total $124.5 million, all new projects.

The U-M-Dearborn’s request totals $54.7 million, all new projects.

The U-M-Flint’s request totals $12.9 million (Option A) or $22.7 million (Option B).
