Process in place for reporting compliance issues across U-M

Topics:

The University of Michigan, including Michigan Medicine, is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards by actively educating faculty and staff about compliance policies and ensuring there is a process in place to report potential issues.

The Compliance Hotline is both a toll-free phone number — 866-990-0111 — and an online reporting tool.

Workforce members can use the hotline to report financial, regulatory, discrimination, employee safety and substance abuse or drug diversion concerns, NCAA violations, or anything that seems out of the ordinary or inconsistent with the university’s ethical standards.

The Compliance Hotline is staffed by a third-party vendor that provides:

• Independent, trained interview specialists.

• The option of caller anonymity. Those choosing to report anonymously should provide enough detail to allow for comprehensive review of their concern.

• 24/7 availability.

• Multilingual staff.

People are encouraged to first try discussing concerns with their manager or supervisor. However, if this has proven ineffective, or if there is a fear of retaliation, people should report using the hotline.

Situations involving an immediate emergency or imminent risk of harm should be reported via 911 (police or fire emergency) or 999 (employee or patient injury or emergency, security assistance).
