Photo: Carpenter’s oil paintings at Comprehensive Cancer Center

The Spirit of Place: Oil Paintings by Laurie Schirmer Carpenter, seeks to depict the quiet beauty of landscapes. Painting on linen, canvas or panel, Carpenter works to capture the timeless quality of the land while giving the impression of a particular place at a set point in time. Her paintings, including “Day’s End (August),” above, may be of a single place or a composite of several places, inspired by a dialogue between place and self. Her work has been shown nationally and is found in both private and corporate collections. The exhibit can be viewed from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Level 1. (Photo by Laurie Schirmer Carpenter)
