Onlookers peruse art at last year’s Ann Arbor art fairs, which return 10 a.m.-9 p.m. July 16-18 and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 19. The events will include artwork and musical performances, some by staff and faculty members. To kick off art fair week, U-M and several area businesses are sponsoring the Fourth Townie Street Party from 5-9:30 p.m. July 14 at North University between Thayer and Fletcher, adjacent to Ingalls Mall. Also returning is U-M’s Bioartography project, which will sell artistic microscopic tissue photography to fund projects of graduate students and fellows associated with The Center for Organogenesis. In another Ann Arbor art fairs event, more than 350 School of Art & Design alumni are participating in the Connecting 2008 alumni show at Slusser Gallery on North Campus and Work•Ann Arbor on State Street. An opening reception is from 6-9 p.m. July 18 at Slusser Gallery. The first art fair was established in 1960 by collaboration between the Ann Arbor Art Association, U-M and two business groups. An estimated 500,000 people attend the fairs each year. For more information go to annarbor.org/events/artfairs.asp. (Photo by Lin Jones, U-M Photo Services)
