Parking shouldn’t be a problem for faculty and staff Sept. 2–3

Although students and their families will be vying for parking spaces during move-in the Thursday and Friday before Labor Day (Sept. 2–3), parking for U-M employees should be no different than normal, with one exception.

The Triangle parking lot, bounded by Madison, Thompson and Packard streets, will be closed 6 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 1) through Labor Day weekend.

All other employee parking areas will be monitored by attendants, who will allow only those vehicles with appropriate permits to enter and park during the day. No guest permits will be issued Sept. 2–3.

Due to rerouting of traffic on selected streets noon–11 p.m. Sept. 2 and 8 a.m.–11 p.m. Sept. 3, the Thompson Street structure will only be accessible from southbound Thompson. The Washington Heights parking lot across from Mary Markley Residence Hall will only be accessible from westbound Washington Heights.

On Friday (Sept. 3), faculty and staff may encounter heavier than normal traffic when coming to work.

Families of returning students will be directed to the Glazier Way and State Street commuter lots and to Crisler Arena parking areas during normal University business hours. They will be allowed to park at some employee lots and structures from 6 p.m.–midnight during move-in.
