Palincsar to hold Walgreen Professorship of Reading and Literacy

Prof. Annemarie Sullivan Palincsar of the School of Education will hold the Jean and Charles R. Walgreen Jr. Professorship of Reading and Literacy.

Her appointment to the endowed chair, effective Feb. 1, was approved by the Regents at their February meeting.

Since joining the U-M in 1989, she has received the Raymond B. Cattell Early Career Award for Programmatic Research from the American Educational Research Association and was named a Fellow in the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities.

Palincsar, who received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1982, began her career as a resource/consulting teacher with the Athens (Ill.) public schools in 1974. She became program supervisor with the Sangamon Area Special Education program in Springfield, Ill.

She was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Illinois for one year after receiving her Ph.D. She went to Michigan State University in 1983 as assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 1987. She came to U-M in 1989 and was promoted to professor in 1993.
