    Regents appoint advisory committee to assist with presidential search

    The Board of Regents has appointed an advisory committee to assist with the search for the next president of the university. Regent Laurence B. Deitch, speaking on behalf of all of his colleagues, made the announcement at the start of the July 18 meeting on the Ann Arbor campus.

    Michigan agrees to extend Beilein’s contract through 2018-19

    U-M Director of Athletics Dave Brandon announced July 17 a contract extension that will keep John Beilein as the men’s basketball coach through the 2018-19 season. Beilein led the Wolverines to the national championship game this spring and to four NCAA Tournament appearances in the past five years.

    Ross professor, course encourage students to be world changers

    Ask Michael Gordon what he’s trying to accomplish by exposing undergraduates to an up-and-coming focus in business curriculum called social entrepreneurship and the answer probably will go something like this: “Each of us has the opportunity and potential to nudge the planet in the direction we want to see it move,” Gordon writes in his blog, profmichaelgordon.com.

    Coleman to recognize Detroit interns at event

    Mariama Nagbe started an empowerment dance program for at-risk youth in Detroit’s Delray neighborhood. She is among 200 U-M Detroit interns who have accepted President Mary Sue Coleman’s invitation to a 5:30-7:30 p.m. reception Tuesday, at the m@dison building, 1555 Broadway St., off of Grand Circus Park in Detroit. The purpose is to recognize the work of U-M interns in Detroit.

    Regents approve clearer, simpler guidelines for granting in-state tuition

    The Board of Regents voted 6-2 Thursday to approve changes in the guidelines for how students can qualify for in-state tuition. The changes take effect in January 2014.
