Open Enrollment for 2025 benefits continues through Nov. 1

Topics:

Benefits-eligible faculty, staff, retirees and graduate students can change their University of Michigan benefits during Open Enrollment, now underway and running through 5 p.m. Nov. 1.

Changes can be made to health, dental, vision and legal plan enrollments. Faculty and staff also may add eligible dependents and enroll in a flexible spending account.

Benefits changes and new rates will take effect Jan. 1, 2025.

Open Enrollment 2025 features enhancements to the Legal Services Plan, the opportunity to increase optional life insurance coverage, and a higher Health Care Flexible Spending Account limit.

Eligible employees can enroll in optional life coverage from $10,000 up to eight times their salary with a maximum coverage of $1.7 million, depending on a person’s salary. For specific coverage options, monthly cost examples and access to a cost calculator, go to myumi.ch/uhr-OptLife.

The Legal Services Plan also will be enhanced with the following new services in 2025:

  • Divorce, dissolution and annulment, contested and uncontested — This includes preparing and filing pleadings, motions and affidavits, drafting settlement and separation agreements, and representation at the hearing or trial.
  • Custody orders — This covers preparation of petitions, consent forms and waivers, and representation at court hearings to modify or enforce a child custody order.
  • Enforcement or modification of support order — This covers representation after a judgment to enforce or modify a court’s award of support or alimony.

The Health Care Flexible Spending Account contribution maximum will increase to $3,200 in 2025. Those planning to use a Health Care FSA next year must re-enroll even if they enrolled last year. Federal regulations do not allow Health Care FSA enrollments to continue from one year to the next.

Several resources are available to help faculty, staff and retirees choose the health plan that meets their needs, and then to use these benefits wisely. Tools include Benefits Mentor, an interactive plan comparison tool; a health plan coverage comparison interface; and a health plan coverage comparison chart.

Faculty, staff and benefits-eligible graduate students can make benefits changes online through Wolverine Access self-service. Go to wolverineaccess.umich.edu and search for “benefits self-service,” then select Benefits Enrollment.

Retirees may make changes online or complete and return the enrollment form mailed in September. Forms must be returned by fax or mail, and be received or postmarked by Nov. 1.

Wolverine Tower is closed to the general public, so no walk-in service is available.

For answers to benefits questions, call the Shared Services Center – HR Customer Care at 734-615-2000 or 866-647-7657 (toll-free) off campus, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
