A benefit reading for hunger relief will highlight the Visiting Writers Series during November.
Share Our Strength’s “Writers Harvest: The National Reading,” to be held 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Rackham Amphitheater, will feature fiction and poetry readings by faculty members Charles Baxter, Betty Louise Bell, Alice Fulton and Laurence Goldstein.
Sponsored by the national hunger-relief group Share Our Strength, the event will benefit local organizations fighting hunger. It is one of about 200 such readings taking place across the nation on that day.
Suggested donations are $5, with tickets available at the door and at Borders Books and Music in Ann Arbor.
The Visiting Writers Series, sponsored by the Department of English and Borders Books and Music, features a series of fiction and poetry readings by more than two dozen writers throughout the academic year. Most readings are free to the public.

Nov. 1 (4 p.m.): Antonya Nelson, who teaches literature and creative writing at New Mexico State University, is the author of several short story collections, including The Expendables, In The Land of Men and Family Terrorism.
Nov. 10 (5 p.m.): Novelist Marilynne Robinson, who received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Washington and now teaches and lives in Iowa City, has written the critically acclaimed Housekeeping and Mother Country.
