New prescription drug cards arriving in June

University of Michigan prescription drug plan members will receive new drug plan ID cards in June as the university teams with Magellan Rx Management to administer its prescription drug benefit plan beginning July 1.

The prescription drug plan features, drug coverage and member copay amounts will remain the same.

Mail order pharmacy service under NoviXus Pharmacy Services will continue, and mail order prescriptions will not be affected by the change.

The transition will take place automatically and no action is required.  

The U-M Benefits Administration Office continuously reviews and evaluates services provided by the companies that administer the U-M benefits plans. The search for a new pharmacy benefit manager began in April 2019 and considered feedback from the university community on their service experiences.

Magellan Rx Management will mail a welcome packet and two new ID cards to prescription drug plan members in June.

On or after July 1, the plan member or covered family member will need to show their drug plan ID card to the pharmacist who will verify participation in the U-M prescription drug plan prior to filling a prescription.
