New member elected to the Police Department Oversight Committee

Topics:

The nominating process to fill the two-year, non-Senate faculty position on the university’s Police Department Oversight Committee recently resulted in one accepted nomination for the seat.

The new committee member is Jayapalli Rajiv Bapuraj, clinical professor of radiology in the Department of Neuroradiology at Michigan Medicine.

The six-member PDOC receives and makes recommendations regarding grievances against any police officer deputized by the university. It includes two student members, two faculty members (one Senate and one non-Senate), and two staff members (one union and one non-union) who are nominated and elected by their peers.

The selection process for the Senate faculty seat is underway, and election for the non-union staff representative will take place this summer.

More information about the committee is available at hr.umich.edu/pdoc.
