Vladimir Matejovsky, business editor of Prague’s Mlada Fronta Dnes, the Czech Republic’s largest business daily, has been named the inaugural William Davidson Institute Fellow in Business Journalism of the Michigan Journalism Fellows (MJF) Program.
Matejovsky is studying capital markets, corporate finance and international trade at the School of Business Administration beginning this term. He has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Prague.
“His reports on financial and business issues transcend the day-to-day commercial happenings and attract hundreds of thousands of readers,” says Edward A. Snyder, director of the William Davidson Institute (WDI) at the Business School.
“We are very pleased to have Mr. Matejovsky as the first recipient of the WDI Fellowship in Business Journalism, and are confident that his participation will be enriching for him, his program colleagues, the Davidson Institute and his future readers.”
“The WDI Fellowship is a pioneering effort in journalistic training and, in Vladimir Matejovsky, we have the ideal pioneer,” says Charles Eisendrath, director of MJF, which provides 12 fellowships each year to top mid-career journalists from throughout the United States to pursue individualized study and research at the U-M.
Funded by the WDI as part of the $30 million commitment by William Davidson, chairman of Guardian Industries, the WDI Fellowship in Business Journalism offers a year of study to journalists from countries with emerging economies to help them cover the process of privatization.
The WDI Fellowship will be administered through MJF. The 1994–95 WDI Fellow will be selected from Poland.
