Dearborn’s Papazian joins international panel

Denis Papazian, professor of history and director of the Armenian Research Center at U-M-Dearborn, has been asked to join an international panel, Roundtable on the Transcaucasus. The panel will bring together government officials, academic experts and representatives from international institutions to discuss the policy challenges posed by the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Castor given master status

C. William Castor Jr., professor of internal medicine, has been elected a master by the American College of Rheumatology, the only national professional organization for physicians specializing in arthritis. Castor is among 15 persons to be granted master status this year and the first person from Michigan to be so recognized.

Mancy honored by NSF

Khalil H. Mancy, chair of the Department of Environmental and Industrial Health has received the Environmental Leadership Award from the National Sanitation Foundation International. The award honors “public health officials who demonstrate distinguished achievement and leadership in the field of environmental health and safety.”

Hensinger to head AAOS

Robert N. Hensinger, professor of surgery and chief, Division of Pediatric Orthopedics, has been named president of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. The Academy provides educational programs for orthopedic surgeons and allied health professionals.

Hoff is president-elect of neurological surgeons group

Julian T. Hoff, professor of surgery and head of the Section of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery, is president-elect of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, which has a membership of 3,400 worldwide. Hoff also is treasurer of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons and chair of the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

Chandler heads Congress

William F. Chandler, professor of surgery in the Section of Neurosurgery, is president of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, whose 3,200 members are dedicated to providing neurological education.
