Paul’s book examines modern Hollywood horror and comedy
William J. Paul’s book Laughing Screaming, Modern Hollywood Horror & Comedy has been published by Columbia University Press. Paul is associate professor of English and film and video studies. Laughing Screaming is the first book about gross-out, a mode of address that became widespread in Hollywood films in the 1970s and 1980s.
Comninou named ASME Fellow
Maria A. Comninou, professor of mechanical engineering and applied mechanics, has been elected a Fellow in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Comninou has worked on many aspects of contact and crack problems and on elastic waves at interfaces, and has published more than 90 papers on these subjects.
Wagaw’s book focuses on Ethiopian Jews in Israel
For Our Soul, Ethiopian Jews in Israel by Teshome G. Wagaw has been published by Wayne State University Press. Wagaw, professor of education and of Afroamerican and African studies and a native of Ethiopia, has studied the immigrants in Israel since 1985. His other books include Education in Ethiopia: Prospect and Retrospect and The Development of Higher Education and Social Change: An Ethiopian Experience.
Voorhees recognized by National Psoriasis Foundation
John J. Voorhees, professor of dermatology and chair of the Department of Dermatology, has been recognized by the National Psoriasis Foundation “for lifetime achievement based on his distinguished research into the mechanisms and therapy of psoriasis.” Vorhees directs the largest psoriasis laboratory in the United States. His research has improved the understanding of the pathophysiology and pharmacology of skin disorders due to disease or exposure to light.
