The Michigan Journalism Fellows program will develop the nation’s first mid-career fellowship program in education reporting with a three-year, $165,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
The Fellowships, which are part of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies, will operate the program in cooperation with the School of Education.
“With increasing attention being focused on the quality of our nation’s education, this is a particularly favorable time for the University to offer this public service,” said John H. D’Arms, Graduate School dean and vice provost for academic affairs.
In announcing the gift to the Fellowships, Del Brinkman, Knight Foundation journalism program officer, said “we support a program that has proven its effectiveness in expanding journalists’ knowledge about a broad range of subjects.”
