Julie Peterson will head News and Information Services

The appointment of Julie A. Peterson as director of News and Information Services has been announced by Walter Harrison, vice president for university relations.

Peterson, who now is managing editor of the Indiana University News Bureau in Bloomington, will assume her U-M post April l. She succeeds Joseph H. Owsley, who retired July 1.

“I am delighted we have been able to attract Julie Peterson to Michigan,” Harrison said. “Her energy, enthusiasm and creativity will make her a good leader for our talented group of professionals.”

Harrison also said that he is “particularly grateful to the students, faculty and staff who served so well on the search committee that recommended her. I deeply appreciate their service to the University.”

Peterson’s U-M duties will include responsibility for the University’s public information and media relations programs and oversight of University periodicals, such as The University Record and Michigan Today.

Peterson holds a B.A. in journalism and psychology and an M.B.A. in marketing, all from Indiana University.

She served as assistant to the director of communications at Indiana Univer-sity School of Business in 1985; conference coordinator for the National Network of Graduate Business School Women, Bloomington, 1985–86; staff writer in the Indiana University News Bureau, 1985–89, and managing editor since 1989.
