At their December meeting, the Regents honored outgoing U-M-Flint Chancellor Clinton B. Jones with the following resolution:
“The Regents of the University of Michigan are pleased to salute and commend Clinton B. Jones as he concludes his term as chancellor of the University of Michigan-Flint.
“Clinton Jones came to Flint in 1984 following his service as vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Houston-Downtown. He has been the fourth and longest-serving chief executive officer of this thriving young campus, his term having extended for more than nine years. Those nine years have been marked by unprecedented growth and development, not only in campus physical facilities, but in its programs and enrollment as well. The physical plant has more than doubled in size, and with the completion of the new library facility it will provide the Flint community with a total campus environment of unmatched beauty and functionality.
“But most important of all has been Clinton Jones’ ability to build bridges to the community, so that the campus has become not only a focal point of community pride, but a powerful resource for individual growth and learning that has inspired and challenged young and old alike to become all that they can be. Throughout his tenure, Chancellor Jones has been cited repeatedly by community organizations for his dedication to the city of Flint. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts will continue, as he will continue to serve in his faculty capacity as professor of political science.
“In recognition of his exemplary service, and with deep appreciation and warm best wishes, the Regents now name Clinton B. Jones chancellor emeritus of the University of Michigan-Flint.”
The Regents also passed resolutions at their December meeting recognizing Leah N. Niederstadt on her selection as a Rhodes Scholar and Michael K. Weiss on his selection as a British Marshall Scholar.
