U-M instructional, research and clinical track faculty are invited to apply to be part of the 2023 Michigan Road Scholars Tour scheduled for May 1-5, 2023.

This annual educational tour of various Michigan locations will cultivate an awareness among faculty of the state’s distinctive geographic, economic, cultural and political attributes and encourage public service and research to address the state’s problems.

Designed to increase mutual knowledge and understanding between the university and the people and communities of the state, the five-day tour will introduce participants to the places the majority of our students call home.

In addition, the experience is expected to develop beneficial ties and promote interdisciplinary discussion among the touring faculty.

Tour stops are designed to have a conversation with business owners, nonprofit leaders, educators, legislators and community members as participants travel from Ann Arbor to key areas of the state including Detroit, Lansing and the Upper Peninsula.

Applications will be accepted through Nov. 28. A faculty advisory committee will select 30 faculty members to participate in the tour.

All meals, accommodations and transportation will be provided. Participants will receive materials with pertinent background on state issues, locations to be visited, and community people with whom they will meet prior to departure.
