Engineering solicits nominations for Excellence in Staff Service Awards

April 29 is the deadline for nominations of individuals for the College of Engineering’s Excellence in Staff Service Awards.

The awards, “reflecting appreciation and recognition of the fine work done by the College’s staff members,” are given annually to a maximum of five outstanding employees, according to 1994 College of Engineering Awards Team members Pamela G. Derry, Department of Nuclear Engineering; Bob Donaldson, Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering; Tom Griffin, Department of Aerospace Engineering; Pablo Lavalle, Department of Chemical Engineering; Marti Moon, Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences; and Jamie Rutledge and Pat Shaneyfelt, College of Engineering administration.

Winners receive a $1,000 cash award and a certificate, and will have their name and photo on display in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) building’s atrium for one year. All College of Engineering staff and award winners will be recognized for their contributions at a staff service award event scheduled for June 3.

Nomination forms note that when reviewing nominations, the team “will look at job responsibilities and duties, and such attributes as quality of work, timeliness, initiative, cost-consciousness, teamwork and, most important, excellent service to the College’s and the nominee’s customers.”

Eligible for the award are all full- and part-time non-faculty appointed employees, regardless of length of employment. Temporary employees, faculty and Awards Team members are not eligible.

Nominations may be made by anyone—students, faculty, staff, departments. Nomination materials must include “concrete examples of service above and beyond the call of duty.”

Nomination forms are available in College of Engineering department and administrative offices, student services areas, and the Computer-Aided Engineering Network labs. Nominations should be received by the Awards Team, c/o Jamie Rutledge, Room 2305A, EECS Building 2116, no later than April 29. Questions? Call Rutledge at 936-3582.
