A new list from the U.S. Department of Education calls out the University of Michigan as a school with a high rate of student success for a low price.

U-M is one of six public universities listed among 30 schools nationwide with high graduation rates and low costs for low-income students, according to data recently released by the federal agency.

The new, interactive college scorecard, collegescorecard.ed.gov, provides the first comprehensive data on costs and student outcomes at nearly all post-secondary institutions in the United States.

U-M’s scorecard highlights a graduation rate among first-time, full-time students of 90.3 percent and a $7,156 average net price for in-state, low-income students.

The other public institutions on this list are: Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, University of North Carolina, the University of Virginia and the University of Washington.

U-M’s scorecard also highlights the following as the “most popular academic programs”: engineering; social sciences; biological and biomedical sciences; psychology; business, management, marketing, and related support services.

The scorecard also breaks down several other metrics including student body demographics, average SAT and ACT scores, and earnings after graduation.

The scorecard aims to provide students a searchable site for the earnings of students who attended an institution, along with the most up-to-date information about other measures of a college’s quality, including the percentage of students who graduate or repay their loans.

Students also can access a new measure of cumulative student debt for borrowers who complete their degree at each institution and an improved measure of students’ success in repaying their loans.
