Performing mostly on toys in the key of C, Frank Pahl, Doug Shimmin and Terri Serris seek to elevate bric-a-brac to fine art. Their band Little Bang Theory performs on old music boxes, toy pianos and drums, glockenspiels, xylophones, melodicas, cowbells, woodblocks and baritone ukuleles. They will appear at 12:10 p.m. May 1 in the University Hospital lobby.
Pahl is a musician and visual artist who has performed with the Scavenger Quartet and created art-space installations such as Four Quartets at Artcite in Windsor, showing Wednesday through Saturdays until June 18. His project Little Bang Theory creates music and sound art with recognizable elements of both mariachi and minimalist music.
The performance is sponsored by the U-M Health System Gifts of Art, which presents live music shows on Thursdays and a range of art exhibits year-round in UMHS public areas.
