Don’t miss: Celebrated filmmaker at Residential College

Director Bruno Monsaingeon, whose critically acclaimed films about influential musicians, including Glenn Gould, Yehudi Menuhin and Michael Tilson Thomas, will meet with students and classes this week through March 21 at the Residential College (RC) and the School of Music, Theatre & Dance.

The RC is collaborating with Ars Poetica Chamber Orchestra and its music director, Anatoli Cheiniouk, for the residency. Monsaingeon, who was introduced to the RC and the School of Music, Theatre & Dance by Cheiniouk, will give classes at the film, music and language departments. They include a master class on chamber music, a creative musicianship class on songwriting and composition, and a translations seminar in the foreign language program.

As part of the residency the latest of Monsaigeon’s films, “Glenn Gould: Hereafter,” an international award winner, will be shown at 8 p.m. March 18 at the RC. Monsaingeon worked with Gould on 23 television programs and seven films and has written four books about the Canadian pianist. The film has been presented on public television. A “Conversation with the Artist” is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 19 in East Quad Room 126, and “Face-to-Face: Bruno Monsaingeon and Photographer, Peter Turnley,” with moderator Professor Hubert Cohen, is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 20 in the same location. The three events are free and open to the public.

Monsaingeon also is a violinist and writer who has received international awards, including an honorary doctorate in 2007 from the New England Conservatory of Music. The Ars Poetica Chamber Orchestra and Deirdre Golden, co-founder and president of the board of Ars Poetica, are funding the residency, expected to bring new awareness to the programs at the RC.
