Don’t miss: Alumnus presents public relations talk focusing on gay community

Flint native and alumnus Howard Bragman (LSA ’78) has drawn public attention for providing litigation support in high profile cases, among them cases involving discrimination over sexual orientation.

A nationally respected crisis counselor, Bragman has aided the legal efforts of Joseph Steffan who was kicked out of the U.S. Naval Academy for his sexual orientation; the Lewinsky family; and Sharon Smith in Smith v. Knoller, a high-profile civil rights and justice trial involving a dog mauling death.

Bragman has taken his 30 years of public relations and marketing experience and distilled them into a book, “Where’s My Fifteen Minutes?” He will discuss the potential relevance of public relations to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and how that community can use these lessons to advance personally and as a movement. His talk is at 4 p.m. Feb. 3 in Room 2239 Lane Hall.

Bragman’s book has many examples of celebrities coming out and finding success using these lessons. The book seeks to act as a touchstone for anyone creating or managing an image in the public eye.

This lecture is part of the Institute for Research on Women and Gender‘s Lesbian, Gay, Queer Research Initiative.
