Details on Commencement
Spring Commencement, 10 a.m. April 29, Michigan Stadium, regardless of weather
Tickets
Tickets for spring commencement will be distributed 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 24-26 at the box office in the lobby of Hill Auditorium.
Bachelor’s degree recipients are eligible for up to eight tickets; master’s and doctoral degree recipients, including those participating in the Graduate Exercises on April 28, for up to four. Identification must be presented.
Although tickets have assigned section, row and seat numbers, ticket packets will be distributed randomly.
Extra tickets, if available, will be distributed to graduates and candidates on a first-come, first-served basis 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 27-28 at the Registrar’s Office in the LS&A Building.
Arrival time and entrance points for students and guests
Families and guests should enter the Stadium through Gates 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m., and should be seated by 9:30 a.m.
All students participating in Spring Commencement should enter the Stadium beginning at 8:30 a.m. LS&A graduates and candidates should enter through Gate 8. All other graduates and candidates should enter through Gate 4.
A procession will precede the program, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Marshals will help students and candidates line up. They will be seated based on the unit from which they are receiving their degree.
Assistance for those with disabilities
Individuals with disabilities, both graduates and guests, should call 998-6037 no later than April 26 for information about entry into the stadium and seating locations.
A sign language interpreter will be present at the ceremonies and a seating area has been designated for those with hearing impairments. Graduates or candidates who wish to sit in this area, or to have family members or guests seated there, should make that request when they pick up their tickets.
Parking for those with disabilities will be available in a small lot on Keech Street, across from Gate 9. Only vehicles displaying a valid handicapped parking permit may park there.
Off-site parking
The Ann Arbor Transit Authority will run special shuttle buses to the stadium from several Ann Arbor sites. Schedules will be available during ticket distribution.
Stadium policy on carry-ins
In keeping with Michigan Stadium policy, the following are prohibited inside the gates: umbrellas, coolers, beverages and food, camcorder cases, backpacks, signs, banners, balloons, balls, large camera bags and items mounted on poles.
University Graduate Exercises, 3 p.m. April 28, Hill Auditorium
Tickets
Up to six tickets per graduate/candidate will be distributed 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. April 25-26 in the Rackham Building Lobby. ID must be presented.
If available, extra tickets will be distributed to graduates/candidates on a first-come, first-served basis 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. April 27 at the Reception Desk, Room 1004, Rackham Building.
Assembly (fair weather)
Graduates/candidates should gather in the Lydia Mendelssohn Theater no later than 2:15 p.m. to participate in the academic procession to Hill Auditorium. Faculty marshals will help students line up.
Assembly (inclement weather)
Graduates/candidates should proceed directly to Hill (doors will open at 2 p.m.), where marshals will help with seating.
Arrival time for guests
Families and guests should enter Hill through the front and side lobby doors and should be seated by 2:45 p.m. Doors will open at 2 p.m.
Reception
All participating graduates/candidates and their guests are invited to a reception following the exercises on the second floor of the Rackham Building.
Assistance for those with disabilities
Those with disabilities, both students and guests, may be dropped off at the accessible entrance to Hill Auditorium, on the corner of North University and Thayer Street. Ushers will be available to help with accessible seating and the location of accessible restrooms.
An area has been set aside for those with hearing impairments and a sign language interpreter will be present.
Graduates/candidates who use wheelchairs or might otherwise have difficulty traversing the steps to the stage should call 998-6042 for special arrangements.
