Community service grants available

Student organizations, individual students, faculty and administrators in-volved in community service projects may apply for one of 22 Michigan Generation Grants available for the first time this year.

Applicants for the awards, $500 to $15,000, must show that their projects are innovative and link the campus and the surrounding community. Applicants must be prepared to provide 25 percent matching funds for the project to demonstrate campus commitment; provide plans for sustain-ability; and show how their programs excel in “quality, innovation and uniqueness, replicability, sustainability and community voice.”

Grant funds are provided in part by the Commission on National and Community Service through the Michigan Campus Contact Higher Education Collaborative.

Categories include student-initiated projects, evaluation and outcomes, curriculum development and leadership training.

Proposals are due Sept. 25 for the first cycle and should be sent to the Michigan Campus Compact, 31 Kellogg Center, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824; (517) 353-9393.
