Michigan Radio, USC Radio (University of Southern California) and Carlson Marketing Group Automotive Division (CMG Automotive) have announced a major grant to fund local underwriting in Michigan and Los Angeles of Marketplace, American Public Radio’s daily program on business and the global economy. The show can be heard weekdays at 6:30 p.m. on Michigan Radio.

Michigan Radio and USC Radio will utilize a portion of the grant to create a Detroit news bureau to report on transportation news and issues.

Carlson will help publicize Marketplace via a special Carlson distribution of audiotapes of the program to a list of officials in the automotive industry.

“Marketplace has earned well-deserved praise for its intelligent, thorough reporting,” says Joseph A. Campana, president of CMG Automotive Division. “We’re proud to support a program that will contribute to greater public understanding of the issues facing the industry that we at CMG Automotive serve.”

“Changes in the economy, technological advances and environmental concerns have kept auto manufacturers and importers in the news,” adds Lon G. von Hurwitz, executive vice president and general manager of West Coast operations, CMG Automotive. “Our gift will help public radio in Los Angeles and Michigan to continue its coverage of an industry that plays a critical role in the U.S. economy.”

Michigan Radio’s General Manager Joel Seguine “welcomes Carlson as an underwriter of Marketplace, one of our most popular programs. And we’re especially grateful to Carlson for making it possible for us to house the program’s Detroit bureau and become part of the outstanding team that produces Marketplace each weekday.”

CMG Automotive is a division of the Carlson Marketing Group, one of many Carlson companies, a leader in both the hospitality and performance improvement marketing fields.

USC Radio is a division of the University of Southern California with four stations, and is the national producer of Marketplace, distributed nationwide to 156 American Public Radio stations.

Michigan Radio can be heard in Ann Arbor on WUOM, 91.7 FM; in Grand Rapids on WVGR, 104.1 FM; and in Flint on WFUM, 91.1 FM.
