Technical innovation ideas sought to improve patient care

The U-M Coulter Translational Research Partnership, which funds translational collaborations between faculty from the College of Engineering and clinical departments at U-M, has announced its 2016 Call for Proposals. Proposals are due Jan. 15. The program seeks to accelerate the commercialization of medical devices, surgical tools and diagnostics that address unmet clinical needs. Record email, print publication reduced over Thanksgiving

The University Record’s email and print editions will take a break over the Thanksgiving holiday. Wednesday’s email will be the last one sent until Dec. 2, when delivery will resume until the end of the semester. There will be no print edition of the Record on Nov. 30. The print edition will return Dec. 7, and the final print edition of the semester will be Dec. 14. Major faculty or staff news that occurs over the holiday may be posted to the Record’s website, record.umich.edu.

Apply for the Road Scholars Tour

U-M instructional, research and clinical track faculty are invited to apply by Nov. 30 for consideration to be part of 2016 Michigan Road Scholars Tour. The goal of the May 2-6 tour is to increase knowledge and understanding between the university and the people and communities of Michigan. It also demonstrates how U-M is connected to the entire state; cultivates an awareness among faculty of the state’s geographic, economic, cultural and political attributes; and encourages public service and research to address problems. UM-Dearborn creates Center for Disparity Solutions and Equity

The University of Michigan-Dearborn’s College of Education, Health and Human Services seeks to create change by linking people to local resources and educational opportunities. The Center for Disparity Solutions and Equity, which started this fall, is a focused center for studying, researching, disseminating and implementing promising evidence-based solutions to reduce inequalities. The goal is to bridge the gap in education, health and human services by making connections for those with a need and those looking to assist, including the Samaritan Center and Joy-Southfield, both in Detroit.

StaffWorks conference organizers seek poster, speaker submissions

University of Michigan StaffWorks is accepting submissions for poster and speaker sessions for its Best Practices and Technology conference in spring 2016. StaffWorks is a showcase to share insights, innovations, experience and expertise in the use of technology and best practices to support the services and operations of the university. Submissions should demonstrate how a technology or best practice improves effectiveness or efficiency of a process in communications, development, faculty and student services, finance, human resources, information technology, patient care, research or other areas of work. The call for proposals deadline is Dec. 21. The conference is May 11 at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. It is a creation of the Voices of the Staff.
