UM-Dearborn Center for Autism initiative awarded $750,000

A new Center for Autism, a University of Michigan-Dearborn and Beaumont Health System partnership, will be funded over three years through a $750,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. College of Education and Health and Human Services Dean Janine Janosky said with nearly 18,000 students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in 2011 and an estimated 50,000 Michigan residents with ASD, educators with experience with this need are in demand. The center, to be housed in the building shared by UM-Dearborn’s Early Childhood Education Center and Beaumont’s Center for Exceptional Families, is expected to open in Fall 2016.

Share exhibit ideas for new U-M Museum of Natural History

From Dec. 11-15, the Temporary Exhibit Gallery on the fourth floor of the U-M Museum of Natural History will be transformed into The Exhibit Workshop. In this space, the museum will be testing out ideas for new Museum of Natural History exhibits in the Biological Science Building, under construction north of the museum’s current home in the Ruthven Museums Building. Nominations sought for Research Staff Recognition Awards

The U-M Office of Research is seeking nominations for the two 2016 Research Staff Recognition Awards. The Distinguished University Research Administrator Award honors staff from any of U-M’s three campuses who have demonstrated exemplary service over a number of years in research administration. The Office of Research Exceptional Service Award recognizes one or more staff members from units affiliated with the Office of Research who have shown exceptional performance. $1.5M grant will improve chronic care for underserved populations

The School of Nursing will expand its partnership with Community Health and Social Services Center of Southwest Detroit by implementing a new program for Registered Nurse Chronic Care Coordinators to lead interdisciplinary teams. They will develop a sustainable model of interprofessional care to improve chronic care outcomes for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, asthma, poor birth outcomes, poor immunization rates and mental health issues in their patients. A $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration, the School of Nursing and CHASS will implement the program.

Rec Sports announces Thanksgiving holiday hours

Recreational Sports has announced building and pool hours for the Thanksgiving holiday from Nov. 25-29. The holiday hours will be in effect for the Central Campus Recreational Building and Bell Pool, North Campus Recreational Building and pool, and the Coliseum.
