John Bacon, lecturer in the Program in American Culture, LSA, will deliver the Golden Apple Award lecture at 7 p.m. March 31 in Rackham Auditorium.
Bacon has worked the better part of two decades as a writer, a public speaker, a radio and TV commentator, and a college professor, according to his Web site. He has designed three courses at U-M and Miami University (Ohio) on the history of college athletics, the rise and fall of the American Sportswriter, and the art and craft of sports writing.
In a new honor this year, English professor Ralph Williams received the Lifetime Achievement Golden Apple Award. Williams will retire at the end of the winter semester.
Williams’ talk will be at 7 p.m. April 21 at Rackham Auditorium.
The Golden Apple Award, created by the organization Students Honoring Outstanding University Teaching, is the only teaching award at U-M given by students. The winners are invited to deliver a lecture as if it was the last one of their careers.
