John A. Clark

The Yankee Air Museum has announced the selection of John A. Clark into the Michigan Aviation Hall of Fame. Clark, of Ann Arbor, is a professor emeritus of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan and a member of the Yankee Air Museum. He is a highly decorated World War II combat pilot whose passion for aviation and education led him to become a rocket scientist and nuclear engineer. His enshrinement was scheduled for May 21 at the Hall of Fame, inside the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, Portage, Michigan.

Six MDining chefs — Gary Marquardt, Jeremy Moser, Eric Mughannem, Nick Ringe, Matthew Zatirka and Brian Allen — have met the rigorous qualifications to receive American Culinary Federation certification as an executive chef. The certification is designed to identify those chefs who have demonstrated a level of culinary competence and expertise through their education, work experience, culinary knowledge and skills that is consistent with the executive chef level. They completed written and practical portions including a three-hour timed preparation of a three-course meal meeting classical standards in cooking and sauces.

Andries Coetzee

The Linguistic Society of America has announced the nomination of Andries Coetzee, associate professor of linguistics and associate chair of the Department of Linguistics at U-M, to serve a seven-year term as the next editor of its flagship journal, Language. His nomination is subject to confirmation by a vote of the society’s membership this fall.

Hussein Fancy, assistant professor of history, LSA, was awarded an 11-month Rome Prize in Medieval Studies by the American Academy in Rome, which recently announced its 2016-17 Rome Prize Winners and Italian Fellows. Selected by independent juries through a national competition process, prize winners are invited to Rome where they pursue their work as part of a unique and dynamic international community.

Deborah Dash Moore

Deborah Dash Moore, Frederick G. L. Huetwell Professor, professor of history and professor of Judaic studies, LSA, has been named the new editor in chief of the Posen Library of Jewish Culture and Civilization. It is a landmark 10-volume series that collects 3,000 years of Jewish literature, artwork and artifacts, presenting the best of Jewish culture in its historic and global entirety. Her appointment was recently announced by the Posen Foundation and Yale University Press.
