Dr. Anna Lok, professor of internal medicine, and Dr. Juanita Merchant, professor of internal medicine and of molecular and integrative physiology, were scheduled to be honored May 18 for their contributions to digestive disease science. They were to be recognized as 2008 Outstanding American Gastroenterological Association’s Women in Science through the endowment of the new Sara Jordan Research Scholar Award, presented by the AGA Foundation for Digestive Health and Nutrition in San Diego.

Two members of the U-M Health System staff have received an award for a research paper they wrote about the effects of a TeleWound program on the use of service and financial outcomes among homebound patients with chronic wounds. Dr. Riley Rees, professor of surgery, and Noura Bashshur, research associate II, Health Sciences, plastic surgery section, received the 2008 Telemedicine and eHealth Journal Award, which was presented in April at the American Telemedicine Association’s annual meeting.
