Student arrested for burglary at empty university house
A graduate student was found Aug. 21 in a university-owned empty house on South Division. A basement window was found broken out and a window screen on a second-floor window was found cut. The student reportedly had been staying in the empty building for a few days while reportedly filming a video. He was arrested for burglary and possession of suspected marijuana. He was processed and released pending warrant authorization.
Patient alleges staff assault
A University Hospital patient alleged that a staff member inappropriately touched her Aug. 25. The University Police investigation continues.
Attempted robbery at the Arch investigation still pending
A student told University Police that an unknown man had attempted to take his wallet while he was walking near the West Hall Arch at about 2 a.m. Aug. 30. The student said the suspect threatened to shoot him, but no gun was seen. The suspect punched the student in the face before a group of men pulled the suspect from the student. The student fled the scene and didn’t know which way the suspect left. The University Police did not locate the suspect in the area. Crime Alert #12 was issued with the suspect description.
Visitor arrested for domestic assault
A 49-year-old man was arrested Aug. 31 on East Medical Center Drive after he reportedly struck his companion, a 42-year-old woman, while they were walking toward the U-M Emergency Department. Both subjects reportedly were intoxicated. The woman was taken to the Emergency Department for treatment of facial injuries. The man was taken to the Washtenaw County jail. He was arraigned later the same day on a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.
Attempted burglary into South Quad construction
Construction staff at the South Quad residence hall renovation project reported Aug. 19 that they found a window screen cut. The window was unlocked and open. Entry into the building did not appear likely and no items were stolen. No suspects were identified.
