Police investigation into sexual assault at West Quad still pending
University police continue to wait for results from their investigation in the Jan. 13 report of a sexual assault at West Quad residence hall. A suspect was arrested and interviewed Jan. 19. He was released pending warrant authorization by the county prosecutor’s office once they receive the results of the investigation. The crime alert for the incident was canceled after the arrest.
Unknown man demands money
A student reported to U-M police Jan. 20 that an unknown man had attempted to rob her. She said she was walking along North University in front of the Dental School around 9:45p.m., when an unknown male grabbed her arm and demanded money. She said she didn’t have any and then quickly left. The man is described as black male, 40-50 years, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches, medium build, wearing a black hooded jacket and dark-colored pants. Officers were unable to find the suspect.
Electronics taken from Northwood apartment
A laptop computer, iPad, watch and backpack reportedly were taken from a Northwood Community Apartment Jan. 21. The resident told police he had left his Murfin Street apartment door unlocked while he was gone between 4 and 7:30 p.m. His roommate had returned at 7 p.m., but did not have any property missing. There were no signs of forced entry and no suspects.
Construction burglary thwarted
A construction worker at the Lawyer’s Club reported Jan. 10 that he found an unknown man in the building bending copper tubing around 10:30 p.m. The man left through a window when the worker confronted him. A co-worker followed the man on foot for a couple of blocks before losing sight of him. Several short copper pipes were found after the incident that appeared to have been cut by the man to steal. The man was described as a black male, 6 feet 3 inches and 230 pounds, wearing a ski mask and a black snow suit and carrying a black duffle bag. Police were not able to locate the suspect in a search of the area.
