The following items were approved by the Board of Regents at its Nov. 15 meeting.
Addition and renovations planned for School of Music, Theatre & Dance
A $23.27 million dollar project is planned that will create an approximately 21,000-gross-square foot addition to the Earl V. Moore Building. The addition will house a new rehearsal hall, lecture hall, classrooms, practice rooms and studios, and storage space. In addition, the first floor and a portion of the second floor of the Moore Building’s north wing will be renovated to increase the number and quality of practice rooms. University investment proceeds and gifts will fund the project.
College of Pharmacy renovations planned
Approximately 12,000 gross square feet in the basement and first floor of the College of Pharmacy Building will be renovated to reconfigure office spaces and improve the main entrance to address accessibility issues and provide a more welcoming entry. The $2.6 million project will be funded by the College of Pharmacy.
Bowl at Michigan Stadium to be painted
The steel grandstands at Michigan Stadium will receive a new coat of paint and repair or replacement of any corroded steel. The $6 million project will be funded by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2014.
Tunnel replacement planned for Central Campus
Approximately 100 feet of concrete utility tunnel near and under South University Avenue is scheduled to be replaced. The $3.2 million dollar project will be funded from Utility resources and is scheduled to be completed next fall.

Retirements
Dr. Richard E. Burney, professor of surgery, Medical School, effective Nov. 30. Burney joined the university in 1976. He has held positions including interim head of the section of emergency services, chief of emergency services, medical director of Survival Flight, and chief of the Division of Colorectal Surgery. He served on over 40 University and Health System committees, including the Transportation Research Institute Executive Committee and the Executive Committee on Clinical Affairs. He has served in a variety of leadership roles outside the university. They include president of the Washtenaw County Medical Society, member of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons, and chair of the Michigan Board of Medicine.
William K. Wallach, associate director and archivist in the Bentley Historical Library, effective Nov. 30. Wallach joined the university in 1981. His early work focused on the conceptualization and administration of a research fellowship program for archival professionals at the Bentley Library, funded with a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The program provided funding for 122 fellows who worked on 84 individual and team-based projects, and published more than 70 articles and monographs. More recently, he has overseen the Bentley Library’s visiting researcher program, benefitting 175 scholars, many of whom published their work. Some won awards including the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize.
