Retirements

Terry J. Brown, professor of landscape architecture, School of Natural Resources and Environment, effective Oct. 31. Brown joined the faculty in 1972. His research interests have focused most recently on suburban ecosystem management, including how people perceive and value the urban forest, introducing technology into the classroom, land use planning, and public participation in the design process. In his academic and scholarly work, he is a committed advocate for upholding and enhancing the rights of people with disabilities to participate in their communities. Brown’s demeanor and achievements have helped make him an influential mentor to students.

Michael Foran, professor of accounting, College of Business, UM-Dearborn, effective Aug. 31. He joined the university in 2001. Foran is known as a dedicated teacher who demanded superior performance and promoted a culture of cooperative learning. He served as chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance, and associate dean of external relations and undergraduate programs. He was a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) Task Force, and served on editorial review boards for Issues in Accounting Education, the American Accounting Association National Meeting, and the American Accounting Association Midwest Region. He received the MACPA Distinguished Accounting Educator Award in 2006.
